Welcome To The

Albuquerque BioDiesel Project

The Albuquerque BioDiesel Project was started in January 2006 by two local Albuquerque men, David Brooks and Paul Sment.  David and Paul are both electrical engineers working in the aerospace field.  Follow their zany antics as they attempt, first of all, to simply understand the process of making BioDiesel, then their trials and tribulations as they learn how to make real BioDiesel, finally experience the hilarious climax as they run their clean burning BioDiesel vehicle all over town puffing out incredibly small quantities of clean smelling, non-toxic fumes as they go.

The Albuquerque BioDiesel Project was created in order to explore the challenges of producing, and using BioDiesel, as well as documenting these challenges, successes, and failures during the attempt to power a vehicle with renewable energy. We will also be exploring the feasibility of building a strong BioDiesel market in Albuquerque, New Mexico, although the primary goal of this project is in helping to raise public awareness regarding the technology, feasibility, availability, and importance of making the change to BioDiesel and other forms of alternative energy.

The City of Albuquerque is rapidly becoming a leader in alternative energy solutions in the United States.  It has already made the change to biodiesel (B20 anyway), and enacted many other alternative energy solutions.  The people of Albuquerque can play an active and integral part in this activity.  We would very much like for the Albuquerque BioDiesel Project to act as a vehicle to provide information and resources to promote a better understanding of alternative energy solutions in support of this activity.

The Albuquerque BioDiesel Project also supports the belief that we not only need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, we need to reduce our dependence on oil in all it's forms.  BioDiesel alone is NOT the solution.  If we are going to continue our automobile society, and it looks as if we will for the foreseeable future, we must begin to completely change to way we view the automobile, and transportation in general. The need for reduced consumption coupled with a change to cleaner, more efficient, more logical alternative fuels, and technologies is a choice we MUST make, and soon.  These changes cannot just involve the use of bio-fuels.  These changes must embrace the full spectrum of alternative energy engineering, including acceptance, and promotion of entirely new engineering philosophies, as well as our acceptance, and promotion of the most radical, repulsive, heinous idea of them all...

Stop driving our cars!!

It appears as if government and industry is either unwilling, or unable to really push the change to alternative forms of energy at a pace that is, realistic, acceptable, and doable.  The traditional "snails pace" will do for now so as to not upset the oil infrastructure too terribly much, and believe it or not there actually are rational, economic arguments that support this approach.  But more than anything, more than all of the influence, or interest, or involvement of government and industry, the force that will ultimately drive the necessary change to a more rational, sensible energy future is good, old fashioned, American, free market anarchy.  It is the people of this country that find this "snails pace" unacceptable, coupled with progressive city and state governments, who will make the change to BioDiesel and alternative forms of energy a reality.  The government, and industry will fall in step with the peoples' wishes if we are determined and diligent, and informed.

Please come back, and thank you for you interest.
