Direct Action

It is an illusion that individual action cannot change the world.  It is the sacrifice and commitment of thousands of nameless faceless men and women who seemed to have given up their freedoms and comfort for a cause that would not come to be during their lifetime who build the passionate momentum which eventually changes the direction in which we travel.


Direct Action:

Direct action usually involves, but is not limited to the following measures:

  • LAWSUITS
  • PETITIONS
  • INVESTIGATIONS
  • BOYCOTS
  • PROTESTS
  • ACTS OF CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
  • ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS
  • PUBLIC SPEECH

A brief example of Direct Action changing the course of the 20th century is illustrated by Rosa Parkss' refusing to move from her seat on the bus (civil disobedience) followed by the black community boycotting the bus authority in tandem with massive protests. Public Speeches by famous people such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lawsuits such as Brown vs. Board of Education, and petitions from the NAACP all played key parts in bringing about social change.
